If you’ve ever been awful to yourself…

Try saying those same words out loud to the woman sitting next to you. Or the next woman you see.

Really say it.

This week, I went to a curated event called, The Over 40 Revolution by Darina Neyret and I can't unhear so a lot of the takeaways I went home with it so I decided to write about it.

I hope you don't mind.

We were asked to think about the labels we’ve called ourselves before.

Too fat. Too skinny. Too old. Too much. Not enough.

Then she asked us to turn to the woman next to us and say those same words… to her.

None of us could do it.

It felt cruel. It felt wrong. It felt disrespectful.

So we didn’t say it. And that’s when it hit me.

Why is it so easy to say these things to ourselves but impossible to say them to someone else?

Somewhere along the way, that voice became normal.

Maybe we heard it growing up.
Maybe it came from someone we loved.
Maybe it was repeated so many times
it stopped feeling like it came from outside of us.

Now it just plays.

Like background noise. Like a song we didn’t choose but somehow memorized.

And we don’t question it anymore. Maybe we should.

I’ve been thinking about this ever since.

And honestly…I don’t want that voice running quietly in my life anymore.

Also, side note…

I’m realizing something else too.

The more I step away from traditional networking events and into more curated spaces like this…the more I feel like I belong.

There’s something different about being in a room where the intention is depth, not just connection.

I think I’m starting to fall in love with that.

I don’t have a big lesson for you today.

Just something I couldn't shake off until I shared it with you.
